Tesla Q3 Earnings Preview: $28.34B Consensus as Deliveries Hit 486,532

Tesla reports third-quarter 2026 results on Wednesday, October 21, after the market close, followed by an earnings webcast at 5:30 p.m. ET. The company published a third-quarter revenue consensus of $28.34 billion with a gross margin estimate of 17.90%, per its investor-relations page — a touch above the $28.24 billion in revenue Tesla reported for the second quarter on July 22.

The operating backdrop is already public. On October 2, Tesla reported 486,532 third-quarter deliveries and 13.7 GWh of energy-storage deployments. Investors will be parsing how much of the quarter’s story is mix, pricing and energy — and how much is the autonomous-driving pipeline that has dominated headlines: the Austin Cybercab fleet grew to 300+ vehicles in 30 days, NHTSA’s open safety audit of the steering-wheel-free design demands sworn answers by October 30, and the flying Roadster demo on October 15 delivered a halo moment with no near-term revenue.

Shares closed at $368.06 on the Nasdaq on October 19, giving Tesla a roughly $1.5 trillion market capitalization — with a 52-week range of $297.38 to $498.83. R&D spending has surged: Tesla spent $2.371 billion on research and development in Q2, up 49% from a year earlier, against just $398 million in operating income.

What to listen for on the call: margin trajectory, capital spending on the Cybercab and robotaxi hardware buildout, energy-storage contribution, and any update on Dallas as the next robotaxi city after Austin. The Roadster makes great headlines, but analysts will want numbers on the businesses that actually pay for it.
