Volvo Recalls EX30 Over Head Restraint; Global Campaign Covers 234,000 Cars
By CARC Editorial Team · October 20, 2026 · 3 min read
Volvo has recalled certain EX30 and EX30CC electric crossovers over a head-restraint issue, reporting the campaign to U.S. regulators on October 9, 2026, under NHTSA campaign number 26V671000. Volvo’s internal reference is R10396, and affected VINs became searchable in the federal database the same day. Not every EX30 built in the covered periods is included — owners should check their specific vehicle.
The remedy is straightforward: dealers will reinforce the head-restraint cushion attachment using a two-component epoxy adhesive applied at three specified attachment points. Volvo says physical testing of the repair confirmed a clear improvement in attachment strength. The repair is free of charge, and owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on November 30, 2026. Volvo Car customer service can be reached at 1-800-458-1552, referencing recall R10396; the federal vehicle safety hotline is 888-327-4236.
The scope is global: Volvo confirmed a campaign covering close to 234,000 vehicles across model years 2024 through 2027, with slightly more than 15,000 in Sweden and 5,542 in Denmark. The company says it has received no reports of injuries connected to the problem and is acting preventively.
What to do if you own one: check your VIN at NHTSA’s recall site or through Volvo now rather than waiting for the November letter. Head restraints are a whiplash-protection device — a preventive recall is exactly when you want the fix, before it becomes an injury report.
