Xpeng Names Its Robotaxi “Yoyo”: Vision-Only L4 Service Begins Invite-Only Pilot

Xpeng’s robotaxi now has a name. The Chinese EV maker announced on Weibo on October 8 that its autonomous ride-hailing service will be called Xpeng Yoyo (Xiaopeng Youyou — roughly “leisurely travel”), with an invite-only pilot booking through a WeChat mini-program. More than 2,200 employee trial rides are complete, and Xpeng is expanding testing to external users in stages.
The Yoyo vehicle is based on the Xpeng GX flagship three-row SUV (from 399,800 yuan in China) and is engineered for Level 4 autonomous driving. Like Tesla, Xpeng went vision-only — cameras instead of lidar or high-definition maps — running its second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA 2.0) model on four in-house Turing AI chips delivering 3,000 TOPS of computing power, with what Electrek describes as a six-layer redundancy architecture. Five-, six-, and seven-seat configurations are planned.
The cabin experience is pure China-style ride-hailing: passengers set cabin temperature, fragrance, and music style before pickup, and the vehicle offers zero-gravity seats, massage functions, and a rear entertainment screen. Xpeng first announced robotaxi plans in November 2025, began regular road testing in January 2026, and rolled the production vehicle off the Guangzhou line in May.
