Archer Plans Electric Air Taxi Service Across the Texas Triangle

Archer Aviation plans to launch electric air taxi services across the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Austin metropolitan areas, according to an October 23 report from Aviation International News summarized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The proposed network would use Archer four-passenger Midnight eVTOL aircraft for flights lasting 10 to 20 minutes, linking the three big Texas metros with hops that would take far longer by road.
The honest caveat is certification: the Midnight aircraft has yet to receive FAA type certification, and the announcement did not say when Texas air taxi services will start. That gap between announcement and operation is normal for the eVTOL industry, where aircraft, vertiports, pilot training and air traffic rules all have to mature together before paying passengers can board.
The Texas Triangle is a logical early market because the three metros are large, congested and economically linked, and short intercity hops are exactly where electric air taxis promise the biggest time savings. Archer is also planning New York airport service with United Airlines and has pointed to a Los Angeles debut around the 2028 Olympics, so the Texas plan adds a third front to its launch strategy.
