Chery Shows Off China's First Scaled AC Vehicle-to-Grid Station in Wuhu

Chery showcased a smart energy ecosystem in Wuhu, including what it describes as China's first scaled AC vehicle-to-grid (V2G) demonstration station, according to Drive Safe and Fast's coverage of the reveal. V2G technology lets electric vehicles send power back to the grid, turning parked cars into a distributed energy resource rather than just a load on it.
The significance of "scaled" is the point. V2G demonstrations are common; a station built to operate at real scale, with alternating-current infrastructure that ordinary vehicles can use, is rarer — and it is the step that moves V2G from pilot projects toward something utilities can actually plan around. For Chery, which has been expanding aggressively into energy, robotics and autonomous systems alongside its car business, the station fits a deliberate strategy of selling an ecosystem rather than just vehicles.
The open question, as with every V2G announcement, is commercial: which vehicles, which tariffs and which grid operators will actually use it, and when owners will see money for the electricity their cars supply. Chery has not yet answered those in public detail. But the direction is clear — the car is becoming part of the energy system, and the automakers building the grid side of that story are positioning themselves for a market that does not exist yet.
