Ford Maverick Hybrid Sales Jumped 59.6% in Q3 as Buyers Chase Affordable Efficiency

Ford’s Maverick Hybrid was a standout of the third quarter, with sales of 27,793 pickups — up 59.6% year over year, ad-hoc-news reported on Ford’s October 2 sales release. The affordable compact pickup, offered with a hybrid powertrain, is hitting the market exactly as soaring gasoline prices — a national average of $4.43 a gallon in September — push buyers toward efficiency.
The broader quarter was a transition story. Ford’s total Q3 sales fell 6.6% to 509,764 units, but the decline reflects the planned Escape and Corsair phase-outs rather than weak demand. Truck production rose: Super Duty output reached 110,275 units (+4.4%) and F-Series production grew 4.5% to 266,777 trucks. F-Series sales of 203,707 units kept the lead over the Chevrolet Silverado, putting Ford on track for a 50th year of truck sales leadership.
Ford also reported 1.7 million active paid software subscriptions through September, up more than 40% year over year — the quieter revenue stream Detroit is betting on. Executives say the company has healthy stock going into the fourth quarter and signaled strength ahead, with incentive spending on retail sales kept deliberately low and a pullback from daily-rental fleet sales toward more profitable commercial fleets.
