Geely and Google Form Global Strategic Partnership for a Digital Cockpit Ecosystem

By CARC Editorial Team · October 22, 2026 · 3 min read

Zhejiang Geely Holding Group announced on October 16 that it has entered into a global strategic partnership with Google, the two companies told MarkLines. The partners will jointly develop a digital cockpit ecosystem for eligible models under Geely Holding Group’s brands in overseas markets where Google’s services operate.

The deal underscores how the battle for the car is shifting from engines to software. Geely’s stable of brands — which includes Volvo, Polestar, Lotus and Zeekr — already leans heavily on Google’s Android Automotive OS in Western markets, and a jointly developed cockpit ecosystem suggests deeper integration of navigation, voice and AI services rather than off-the-shelf infotainment.

For Google, it is another beachhead in the race to own the dashboard against Apple’s next-generation CarPlay and a wave of Chinese cockpit platforms. For Geely, which is aggressively expanding in Europe and the Middle East, a Google-backed digital cockpit is a way to erase the software gap with Tesla and Chinese rivals — and to make its export models feel native to markets where Google services dominate.
