Diwali 2026: India’s Best EV Deals Are on Outgoing Stock, Not New Models
By CARC Editorial Team · October 30, 2026 · 3 min read
Diwali is a good time to buy an electric car in India — but only for some buyers, according to an October analysis of the festive offers. It works if you need a car within weeks, want delivery for Dhanteras on Friday, November 6, 2026, or are targeting outgoing stock. India registered 35,995 electric cars in September 2026, up 94% from 18,520 a year earlier, so the market is growing fast — but the discounts are not spread evenly.
The largest reported offers sit on older stock. The pre-SeriesX Tata Curvv EV carries up to ₹3.35 lakh off, and the older Tiago EV and Punch EV up to ₹1.45 lakh off, while the current SeriesX Curvv EV gets only ₹65,000. Tata’s top figures have not moved since July, according to the analysis — Diwali did not create these numbers, it merely repackaged them. Buyers who already own a Tata and qualify for a loyalty bonus can get up to ₹2.75 lakh off the Harrier EV, about 12.6% of its entry price.
Current-generation cars get small offers by comparison: the Syros EV gets ₹20,000 and the Nexon EV ₹45,000, and the Clavis EV has no cash discount at all, only exchange, loyalty, scrappage and corporate benefits. Reported October offers on current models equal roughly 1.5% to 4.2% of entry price. The buying advice that follows is straightforward: if you want an outgoing car, buy now before stock sells out; if you want a current-generation model, or a car that has not launched yet such as the Safari EV, there is no festive rush — November’s offer sheets are not out yet, and waiting costs little.
