Lexus Drops TX 550h+ Plug-In Hybrid From the 2027 Lineup, Upgrades the Rest

Lexus announced on October 16 that it is discontinuing the 550h+ plug-in hybrid for the 2027 TX range in the United States, while bringing upgraded features to the rest of the three-row SUV lineup, MarkLines reported. The TX, launched three years ago and now in its first generation, rides on the GA-K platform shared with the Toyota Grand Highlander.
The move is a rare pruning in a segment that is otherwise expanding: PHEV registrations in Europe jumped 24% in September, and plug-in hybrids remain a core part of Toyota and Lexus’ electrification strategy. Lexus has not said whether the 550h+ will be replaced by a successor or simply folded as the TX’s hybrid and gasoline variants carry the line.
For shoppers, the change means one fewer three-row plug-in option in the luxury segment — a niche where choices remain thin. Expect Lexus to sharpen pricing and packaging on the remaining TX trims to keep the model competitive against the electrified competition flooding in from Europe, Korea and China.
