Tesla Cybertruck Is Officially Dead for Australia

By CARC Editorial Team · October 23, 2026 · 2 min read

Tesla Cybertruck will not come to Australia. Tesla Australia has confirmed it won’t build the electric pick-up truck for the Australian market, Motor1 reported on October 23 — ending years of will-they-or-won’t-they speculation for right-hand-drive buyers.

The decision is not entirely surprising. The Cybertruck has only ever been sold in North America, and converting the stainless-steel truck’s angular body and by-wire systems for right-hand drive would be a costly program for a vehicle whose sales momentum has visibly cooled. Australia’s ute market — the country’s best-selling segment — will be contested by a different wave of electrified pickups instead, from the BYD Shark 6 to the Ford Ranger PHEV and the upcoming diesel plug-in hybrid Chery Stockman.

For Tesla, the move is a concession of focus: with capex being cut to about $20 billion and the company’s priorities shifting to robotaxis, Optimus and AI, a right-hand-drive Cybertruck program simply didn’t make the list.
