Volkswagen Is Cutting ID.4 Prices by $12,500 as Production Ends in Chattanooga

Volkswagen is giving drivers a customer bonus of $12,500 toward the lease or purchase of a 2025 Volkswagen ID.4, according to EV news site Electrek, as reported by USA Today. The offer is available from September 1 to November 2, 2026, and is limited to 2025 model year ID.4 EVs at participating dealerships, which can be challenging to find as stock thins. Volkswagen is also offering a separate $6,000 customer bonus for drivers leasing or purchasing the 2026 ID.4.
The $12,500 bonus exceeds the $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax incentive eliminated in September, which is precisely the point: with the federal credit gone and EV demand slowed in 2026, Volkswagen must offer aggressive pricing to make the ID.4 appealing against rivals like the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. The discount also reflects a model changeover — ID.4 production in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has ended to clear inventory and make way for the vehicle’s replacement, the upcoming ID. Tiguan EV, according to Car and Driver reporting cited in the coverage.
The reality check is the price after the discount. The most affordable 2026 ID.4 in one reported region, the Pro trim, is listed for $47,477 before taxes and fees — even after the $6,000 bonus for the 2026 model, it costs more than $40,000, which is not great for its segment. By contrast, Hyundai’s 2027 Ioniq 5 starts at $35,250 for the SE Standard Range trim, and the Tesla Model Y starts at $39,990 for rear-wheel drive. The ID.4 deal is therefore best on the 2025 model, where the $12,500 bonus does the heavy lifting — and only if you can find one before November 2.
