BYD's New Tang EV Packs 690 Horsepower and Dual 30-Inch Screens

BYD's new Tang EV, its "tech-savvy" flagship five-seat SUV, was revealed in a regulatory filing, Electrek reported. Dual electric motors deliver a combined 690 horsepower, putting the family SUV in performance territory that would have been supercar-exclusive a decade ago.
The interior is arguably even more striking than the powertrain. The filing shows a cabin dominated by dual 30-inch screens, continuing BYD's push to make its flagships feel like rolling technology showcases rather than conventional SUVs. The Tang has long been BYD's upmarket family hauler, and this generation leans hard into that role with size, power and screen real estate as the selling points.
The reveal matters beyond one model. BYD is now the world's largest EV maker by volume, and its flagship cadence sets the pace for Chinese rivals and Western incumbents alike. A 690-horsepower family SUV with a dual-screen cabin is a statement about where the mainstream ceiling now sits — and about how fast Chinese EV hardware is moving while Western brands wrestle with tariffs and incentive cuts.
