DEEPAL S09 Launches in the Middle East and Africa as a Six-Seat Range-Extended Flagship

Changan Automobile has officially launched the all-new DEEPAL S09 in the Middle East and Africa region, with launch events held in Oman and Egypt on October 27, 2026, according to a GlobeNewswire announcement. The S09 is the brand’s flagship six-seater luxury 4WD SUV in the region, combining range-extended electric performance with intelligent technology and comfort-focused luxury.
The S09 is a full-size, six-seat Range Extended EV (REEV) flagship co-developed with Huawei. The REEV format is a deliberate choice for the region: a petrol engine acts as a generator for the battery, so drivers get electric driving without depending on a dense fast-charging network — a real constraint in parts of the Middle East and Africa that pure battery EVs still face. It is the same logic that has made range-extended models popular in China’s less-developed charging regions.
The launch is also a map of where Chinese EV expansion is actually happening. DEEPAL, Changan’s new-energy vehicle brand, is not launching the S09 in the US or Europe first; it is building presence in Oman, Egypt and the wider Middle East and Africa, where buyers want large, comfortable, technology-rich SUVs and where Chinese brands face fewer trade barriers than in the US. For American readers, the S09 is a preview of the format — big, six-seat, range-extended, Huawei-assisted — that may arrive in other markets next.
