Ford Recalls 223,472 F-150 Trucks Because the Fuel Tank May Not Be Properly Secured

Ford is recalling 223,472 model-year 2023 to 2027 F-150 pickup trucks whose fuel tanks may be improperly secured to the vehicle body, according to MotorSafety.org coverage of the October 22, 2026 recall. The fuel tank in the affected vehicles was incorrectly inserted into the frame of the truck, which may lead to the tank partially or fully detaching, resulting in a fuel leak, an engine stall or a fire. The NHTSA recall number is 26V578000.

Each of those failure modes carries a different danger. An engine stall can leave the truck to be hit from behind at high speed, a fuel leak near an ignition source can start a fire, and a tank falling on the road becomes debris that an unsuspecting driver can strike, potentially causing a multi-car pileup. Dealers will inspect and replace the fuel tank straps free of charge.

The recall is a reminder of how large a single truck-platform campaign can be: nearly a quarter of a million of America best-selling vehicle line, across five model years, for a securing defect rather than an electronic one. F-150 owners should check their VIN against the recall, watch for the owner notification, and not delay the strap inspection, since this is a defect where the warning sign may be the failure itself.
