Every Koenigsegg CC850 in America Is Recalled — All Seven of Them

Koenigsegg has recalled every CC850 delivered to the United States — a grand total of seven cars — after a report of unintended vehicle movement, Autoblog reported October 27. The Swedish hypercar, priced at over $3 million, is one of the rarest cars on American roads, so a seven-car recall is, in this case, the entire American fleet.

The issue is a software fault: under a specific combination of circumstances, the car’s electronic parking brake may fail to remain engaged. Koenigsegg filed the voluntary safety recall with NHTSA last week. A parking brake that releases on its own is dangerous at any price, but on a car this powerful and this low-volume, the fix will almost certainly be handled car by car, with the manufacturer in direct contact with each owner.

The recall is a useful reminder that recalls are not only a mass-market phenomenon. Small-volume manufacturers face the same NHTSA process, and a defect affecting seven cars gets the same federal filing as one affecting seven hundred thousand. Owners of affected CC850s should contact Koenigsegg directly and not rely on the parking brake alone until the software remedy is applied.
