Porsche Issues Do-Not-Drive Recall for 718 and 911 Models Over Centerlock Wheels

Porsche has issued another recall carrying a do-not-drive warning for multiple 718 and 911 models equipped with centerlock wheels, according to an October 23 industry briefing citing Autoblog. Centerlock wheels, which use a single central locking nut instead of five lug bolts, can depart from the vehicle while driving if the locking mechanism fails, creating an immediate danger to the driver and to other road users.

A do-not-drive warning is the strongest instruction an automaker can give in a recall, and owners should take it literally: the car should stay parked until a dealer inspects and repairs the wheel assembly. Centerlock hardware is common on track-oriented Porsche models, where fast wheel changes matter, but it demands precise torque and locking procedures that leave little margin for wear or error.

Affected owners should contact a Porsche dealer or Porsche roadside assistance for transport rather than driving to the dealership themselves. The recall is a reminder that performance hardware brings maintenance demands that go beyond a normal road car, and that skipping a centerlock inspection interval is not a minor oversight.
