Stellantis Recalls 239,131 RAM 1500 Pickups Over Rearview Cameras That May Go Dark

Stellantis announced on October 20 that it is recalling 239,131 model year 2025-2026 RAM 1500 pickup trucks because their rearview cameras may fail to display an image. The cause is a radio software error: when the driver shifts into reverse, the camera image may not appear on the screen, leaving the driver without the rear view that federal standards require.

Without the camera image, a driver backing up could strike a pedestrian or an object, with a risk of serious injury or property damage. Dealers will update the radio software free of charge to restore the camera display. The recall adds to a busy year for RAM safety actions, after an August recall of 12,600 RAM 1500 pickups for faulty headlights and a June recall of more than 12,700 RAM 2500 heavy-duty pickups for a software error that could cause a loss of control.

For a truck that is often used for work and family duty, a working rear camera matters more than it might seem: tall tailgates and long beds make the rear blind zone large. Owners should have the software update applied promptly and keep using mirrors and a spotter when reversing until the fix is confirmed.
