Ram Recalls 8,329 Heavy-Duty Pickups Over Steering Modules That Can Kill Stability Control

FCA US is recalling more than 8,000 pickup trucks because of a concern that could increase the risk of a driver crashing, according to an October 6 recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration covered by USA Today on October 20. The recall potentially affects 8,329 vehicles, all of them 2026 Ram 2500 pickup trucks.
The problem is in the steering column control module, which can cause a loss of electronic stability control. According to the safety recall report, there is no warning prior to failure: once the module resets, the electronic stability control light illuminates in the instrument panel cluster — by which point the system is already offline. Stability control is the system that keeps a heavy truck composed in an emergency swerve or on a slick surface, so losing it silently is a serious defect.
The remedy is a free replacement of the steering column control module at a dealership. Owner notification letters will be sent out on November 24, and FCA US can be reached at 800-853-1403 for recall number 90D. Owners who see the stability-control warning light should not assume it is a glitch — get the truck to a dealer promptly.
