Ram Recalls 8,329 Ram 2500 Pickups for Steering Modules That Kill Stability Control

FCA US is recalling 8,329 model-year 2026 Ram 2500 pickup trucks because their steering column control modules can cause a loss of electronic stability control. According to the October 6 NHTSA recall notice covered by USA Today, there is no warning before failure — once the module resets, the ESC warning light illuminates on the instrument cluster, by which point the system is already unavailable.
The campaign (NHTSA 26V651; FCA number 90D) is an expansion of an earlier recall, 26V244, and covers a wider population of the heavy-duty pickups. The remedy is straightforward: dealers will replace the steering column control module free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to go out November 24. FCA US customer service can be reached at 800-853-1403.
Loss of electronic stability control on a heavy-duty truck is not a minor defect. ESC is the system that keeps a truck from spinning or rolling when a driver swerves or hits slick pavement — and it matters most on vehicles with a high center of gravity and heavy loads. If the ESC light comes on in an affected Ram 2500, drive with extra care and get to a dealer promptly.
