Stellantis Recalls Nearly 266,000 Ram Vans Over Potential Loss of Power Steering

Stellantis subsidiary FCA US is recalling nearly 266,000 Ram vans over a potential loss of electric power steering assist, according to an October 23 industry briefing citing Wards Auto. The cause is water intrusion in the power steering system wiring harness, which can interrupt the assist that makes a heavy van manageable at low speed and in parking maneuvers.

A sudden loss of power steering assist does not remove steering entirely, but it sharply increases the effort needed to turn the wheel, which can surprise a driver mid-turn and raise crash risk, especially in a loaded commercial van. The recall lands in the same month as large Stellantis recalls for RAM 1500 rearview cameras and Jeep Grand Cherokee suspension parts, making October a heavy safety month for the automaker.

Van owners and fleet operators should confirm whether their vehicles are included by VIN and schedule the harness repair when notified. Fleet managers in particular should treat this as a priority fix, since vans in daily commercial service accumulate exposure quickly.
