Jaguar Land Rover Recalls 93,997 Range Rovers Over Rearview Cameras That Fail in the Rain

Jaguar Land Rover will recall 93,997 vehicles in the United States because the rearview camera image may fail to appear on the display, NHTSA said on October 23, per Reuters. The recall affects certain 2022–2026 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles.
The cause is disarmingly simple: insufficient drain holes may trap water in the rearview camera and damage it. Federal safety rules require the rearview image to appear promptly when shifting into reverse — a camera killed by water ingress fails that standard and, more importantly, robs the driver of rear visibility in exactly the conditions where spotting obstacles matters.
The remedy is equally mechanical. Dealers will drill additional drain holes in the underside of the tailgate trim so water can escape, and replace the camera if it is already damaged. Range Rover owners should watch for their notification letters and, if the rearview image ever goes dark, get the vehicle checked rather than driving blind.
