Toyota Recalls Over 1 Million Cars as Rearview Cameras Fail Across Toyota, Lexus and Subaru Lineups

Toyota is recalling more than one million vehicles in the United States because a rearview camera fault increases the risk of accidents, especially in tight parking spaces and busy areas. The recall spans model years 2020 to 2026 and covers a broad portion of the Toyota, Lexus and Subaru lineups, including the Camry Hybrid, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, RAV4 Prime, Prius, Prius Prime, Sienna Hybrid, Highlander, Grand Highlander, Land Cruiser and Mirai on the Toyota side, plus Lexus ES, GX, LC, LS, LX, NX, RX, RZ and TX models and the Subaru Solterra.
The fix is a free software update to the parking assist system, performed at an authorized dealership. Toyota owners are told to reference recall numbers 25TB13 and 25LB06, while Subaru owners should reference WRE25. Notification letters are scheduled to be sent to affected owners by December 16, and Toyota owners can call 1-800-331-4331 for more information.
Rearview camera recalls have become one of the most common safety actions in the industry because the camera is now a primary reversing aid for millions of drivers. When the image fails, the driver loses a view that federal safety standards require, and the risk falls hardest on pedestrians and children behind the vehicle. Owners who are unsure whether their car is included can check by VIN in the NHTSA recall database.
