Volkswagen’s EV Battery Recall Spreads to Audi — Owners Told to Stop at 80% Charge

Volkswagen’s electric-vehicle battery recall has spread to Audi, Electrek reported October 27. Audi owners are being told to limit charging to 80% state of charge until a remedy is available, and dealers will impose a temporary 80% limit if needed. Audi expects to mail interim letters notifying owners of the safety risks on December 18, 2026, with further letters once a remedy is ready. The NHTSA campaign number is 26V698, and Audi’s recall number is 93SK.
The wider recall reaches well beyond the U.S. Last week Volkswagen Group issued three separate recalls with Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), affecting 72,668 EVs worldwide, including 9,881 in Germany. The affected models include certain batches of the ID. Buzz, ID.3, ID.4 and ID.7 produced between 2022 and 2025, plus Cupra Born models from 2022 to 2024.
An 80% charge cap is an inconvenience, not a catastrophe — most daily driving uses far less — but it is also a real reduction in usable range, and owners planning long trips should plan charging stops accordingly. Owners with questions can contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 or the NHTSA hotline at 1-888-327-4236, and should check their VIN at nhtsa.gov.
